The buzz around the SERVICE organizations within our customers has been increasing steadily over the past year. At this point it’s safe to say that at least 80% of manufacturers are beginning to have an IoT strategy. A much smaller percentage of these have actually launched successful IoT initiatives.
I keep a close eye on these successes, as they help to build momentum and prove the capabilities to move these solutions into the mainstream. I particularly like the recent testimonial from Sandvik-Coromant (watch video below), a global industrial tooling manufacturer. In this example, Sandvik-Coromant are able to monitor and optimize customer performance with their products by collecting and interpreting sensor data directly from customer machinery. They then turn this data into useful information to optimize machine efficiencies and cut costs.
Also interesting is that this entire solution was realized in Microsoft’s AZURE IoT Suite. This is a one-stop-shop for the IoT hub, stream analytics, logic applications, and the machine learning capabilities needed for a high function connected service application.
